We Got This

(Co-written by Derrick Riemer and Billy Medford)

When troubles start to spoil our race
I know that we won’t quit
We’ll just keep on, pass the baton
Together we got this
We’ll be patients, practice patience
In this hospital of life
No emergency will shake us
Though we’re fractured, there’s no strife

Sometimes it’s easier said than done
And then, it’s said and done
Once an electrifying love
No longer leaves me feeling stunned
Empty promises followed
By recycled solutions
Only leave me wondering
What it is we’re still doing?

I told you that we got this
But still you want to doubt this
I’ll pray and look to heaven
Cause I know he will reroute this
Not just a piece of my heart
Cause he’s the peace in my heart
And he’ll keep us together
Even when we’re apart

I can feel the stress fractures
Because I continue to bend
And all I’ve come to know is loneliness
Even when we’re together in bed
Your words contradict your actions
I feel like I’ve been misled
And now it’s become an internal war
Between my heart and my head

I see your struggles trending
You wear them on your sleeve
Compassion is my fashion
And so I still believe
We’ll read this book together
The chapters of one soul
But we’ll need the whole story
To climb out of this hole

You continue to seek happiness
But you feel with me it’s belated
Then you place the blame all on me
And head off with your friend to get faded
It’s the same cards, just a different hand
We just found ways to replay it
Its like the deck was stacked against us
So all of this feels like it’s tainted

Seems like there’s no debating
This problem we’re creating
You think that we are fading
And I think we’re worth saving
It’s not the math that I envisioned
So tell me your decision
Multiplication and addition
Or subtraction and division

No matter what happens,
At the end of the day I want this
Maybe all the pain, struggle, and strife
Will become happiness and bliss
Maybe I need to take our trials and tribulations
With a grain of salt, rather than an iron fist
Because without you I’ve got nothing
But together, we got this
