Inspiration

Inspiration comes to me less than she did before
Actually she’s knocking, but I don’t answer the door
Complacent with the ordinary, so she goes ignored
Knowing in my heart of hearts that she’s a true reward

A bright spot in a life of storms, a rainbow in the sky
Colors undeniably the apple of my eye
Resistance to go chasing and I often wonder why
I watch her from a distance as her color fades goodbye

Thoughts devoid of action are becoming sentimental
Moments so one-sided will not ever reach potential
Two worlds collided is not merely accidental
Songs of inspiration in my life are instrumental

I let you in today, and here you are upon my paper
With me like a shadow, not dissolving like a vapor
You’re in my soul and in my bones, I know that this is true
And when those bones turn into ash, I know I’ll be with you
