Ready For New Memories

Let’s shuffle up this deck of thoughts and start another game
Cause honestly these memories are getting kind of lame

Though people come and go much like the stains upon our clothes
The lies that lie beneath the fabric we will always know

And where we wear each other is something I’ve noticed too
I stand here fully clothed and yet I’m naked without you

But your presence in my mind is not a present like a gift
It’s a replay of a strikeout: Here’s the swing and there’s the miss

The weight of what has happened has me waiting for what happens
The opening of doors ignored while they continue tapping

The king was thrown down off his throne for his past acts of malice
Through devotion and integrity he’ll build a bigger palace

We’re not trained to ride this train of life in backwards motion
Not straight ahead, but forward is the movement of promotion

The lesson that we take will no doubt lessen our mistakes
And turn the bad or good we had toward something that is great

So I say “Hi” to this new high gained with a clear perspective
Letting go of memories which never were effective

But if that which we resist only continues to persist
Then let it be my future self that I refuse to quit
